“The C Word” documentary is told through the perspectives of two cancer survivors: French neuroscientist David Servan-Schreiber, M.D., and the movie’s director, Meghan L. O’Hara. Dr. Servan-Schreiber and Meghan describe the current state of cancer treatment while exploring the anti-cancer lifestyle, which is made up of habits that lessen our chance of disease, including nutrition, exercise, stress management and avoiding toxins.
Northwest Cancer Clinic medical director, Brian Lawenda, M.D., a Board Certified Radiation Oncologist and Integrative Oncologist, is a local physician working to promote the anti-cancer lifestyle to help reduce risk of the disease and prevent cancer recurrence. There will be a question and answer session follow the documentary with Dr. Lawenda, Dr. Eric Gamboa, Hematologist and Medical Oncologist from Kadlec Regional Medical Center, Dr. Marco De Santis, Endocrinologist from Trios Health and Dr. Noel Hubbs, Naturopathic Doctor from Stellar You Wellness Center.
“‘The C Word’ movie provides personal insight into proven complementary therapies along with more traditional therapies like radiation and chemotherapy,” says Dr. Lawenda. “The movie also helps filter out cancer-causing myths and focuses on proven facts.”
The movie explores how lifestyle choices can impact your risk of disease. Themes like obesity, an unhealthy diet, lack of sleep and inactivity can make your body more conducive to cancer. Small changes like increasing your physical activity and eating better can greatly benefit overall health.
The event is free and open to the public. Small snacks will be provided.
